Strict Construction

As reported in the Washington Post (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/11/19/hillary_clintons_fix.html), if President-Elect Obama offers the position of Secretary of State to Senator Clinton, and if she accepts, they will run up against the Emoluments clause of the constitution, which says:

"No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office."

But I wonder if the strict constructionists on the Supreme Court will determine that this clause only applies to male appointees.
